About

Christina Algeciras

is a visual artist based in South Florida whose work explores memory, the body, identity, and the unseen forces that shape human experience. Working primarily in watercolor, ink, collage, and other mixed media, she creates pieces that invite close looking—where delicate surfaces reveal hidden narratives, layered symbolism, and quiet psychological tension.

Born to Swiss and Cuban parents, Christina's work is informed by the experience of inhabiting multiple cultural worlds and by a lifelong fascination with mythology, dreams, nature, and the symbolic life of the psyche. Her practice explores themes of femininity, intergenerational inheritance, belonging, transformation, and the stories carried in both the body and the landscape.

Alongside her artistic practice, Christina is a psychotherapist and psychoanalytic candidate whose work has been shaped by years of studying the relationship between image, embodiment, and the unconscious. While her artwork is not intended as an illustration of psychological theory, years of listening deeply to human experience—and an ongoing contemplative practice rooted in dreams, somatic awareness, and imagination—have cultivated an attentiveness to ambiguity, symbolism, and emotional complexity that naturally informs her creative process.

Much of her work begins intuitively. Layers accumulate through painting, drawing, writing, and collage until an image gradually reveals itself. Rather than imposing a fixed narrative, she allows symbols to emerge through the making itself, trusting the conversation between conscious intention and unconscious discovery. She is particularly interested in the tension between what is immediately visible and what remains hidden, believing that meaning unfolds through sustained attention rather than immediate explanation.

Christina's work has been exhibited in juried exhibitions and continues to evolve through an interdisciplinary practice that bridges art, ecology, depth psychology, and contemplative traditions. She lives and works in South Florida.
